Sternmed underpads are disposable absorbent bed pads made for Sternmed Afrika Ltd in Nairobi. Each pad is 60 x 90 cm, sold in a packet of 10 at KSh 800 and in a bale of 10 packets at KSh 8,000. They are in stock and ship from Nairobi today.

What are Sternmed underpads?

An underpad is a flat absorbent sheet placed on top of a bed sheet or chair. It soaks up urine, light faeces, blood or wound fluid and keeps the mattress dry. Nurses also call it a bed pad, a dressing pad or a bed liner.

Sternmed underpads have a soft top layer that draws fluid in, an absorbent core and a waterproof backing. The backing stops liquid reaching the sheet below. When the pad is wet you lift it off, fold it and bin it.

They are single use. That is the point. No washing, no drying and no smell left in the mattress.

Sternmed underpads specifications

We keep one size and one quality. That keeps the price steady and means every packet you open feels the same as the last.

Sternmed underpads price in October 2026

Two prices, no small print. A packet of 10 costs KSh 800. A bale of 10 packets, which is 100 pads, costs KSh 8,000.

For context, market listings seen in October 2026 put 10 pad packets of 60 x 90 cm underpads between KSh 1,000 and KSh 2,950. One market listing sells a 10 pad packet at KSh 690 and another at KSh 1,301. Sternmed underpads sit in the lower part of that range with the size and count printed on the packet.

We do not claim to be the cheapest pad in Kenya. We claim a stated size, a stated count, stock in Nairobi and payment on delivery. Those four things are what most buyers ring us about.

Who uses Sternmed underpads?

Families caring for a bedridden parent at home are our biggest group of buyers. One packet of 10 lasts a few days for a patient who needs a change twice a day. A bale lasts a month or more.

Hospitals, nursing homes and clinics buy by the bale. Maternity units use them during labour and after delivery. Theatre and dressing rooms use them under wounds and drains.

Pharmacies and chemists buy bales to sell packets over the counter. If that is you, read our underpads distributor guide for terms and margins.

Who stocks Sternmed underpads?

At the moment the brand is sold direct by Sternmed Afrika and through pharmacies and resellers who buy bales from us. We are adding stockists across Kenya during 2026. Ask us for the nearest one to you.

If you run a chemist, a medical shop or an online store and want to stock Sternmed underpads, the entry point is one bale. We explain the retail margin and reorder rhythm on the distributor page.

How to use Sternmed underpads well

Place the pad with the soft side up and the waterproof side down. Centre it under the hips, because that is where most fluid lands. Smooth out folds so the skin does not sit on a ridge.

Change the pad as soon as it is wet. A wet pad left in place softens the skin and raises the risk of pressure damage. The NHS guide to urinary incontinence explains why skin care matters for anyone who leaks.

Fold the used pad inwards with the wet side in and bin it. Wash your hands. Then lay a fresh pad.

Sternmed underpads for home care

Caring for a parent at home is hard enough without a wet mattress. One pad under the hips at night saves a full sheet change at 3 am. Two pads side by side cover a restless sleeper.

Keep a packet open by the bed and a spare bale in a dry cupboard. Reorder when you open the last packet. Our Nairobi delivery means you are never more than a day from fresh stock.

Many families also use the pads on a wheelchair seat, a sofa or the car seat on the way to clinic. The 60 x 90 cm size covers a standard seat with room to spare.

Sternmed underpads for wards and clinics

Ward stores like one size because it is easy to count and easy to order. A bale of 100 fits on a standard shelf. Each packet of 10 goes to a bay or a bedside.

Use the pads under patients during procedures, under drains and under wound dressings during changes. In maternity they protect the delivery bed and the postnatal bed. In casualty they catch blood and fluids without wasting linen.

Buying bales from one supplier also keeps your consumables price list simple. One line, one price, one reorder point.

For clinics and chemists

A clinic with two observation beds and a dressing room uses about a bale a month. A chemist that stocks the packet sells it to the families around it who would otherwise travel to town.

Both get the same pad and the same price as a hospital. Reorder when you open the last packet and the next bale is with you before you run out.

Storage and shelf life

Keep bales dry, off the floor and out of direct sun. Damp is the enemy of an absorbent core. A sealed packet keeps its full absorbency for years when stored this way.

Open one packet at a time. Keep the rest sealed until needed so dust and moisture stay out.

Next to other pads on the market

Some pads on the market are thinner and smaller than they look online. Some do not print a size at all. Sternmed underpads print the size and count so you can compare like with like.

Washable bed pads cost more up front and need a washing machine, a dryer and time. For a short illness or a busy ward, disposable pads are the simpler choice. For a long term patient at home, many families use both.

Sternmed underpads and adult diapers

A diaper is worn. A pad is laid on the bed. Most bedridden patients need both, because diapers leak at the sides when a patient lies on one hip for hours.

Families often find they can use fewer diapers once a pad is on the bed. A damp diaper can wait until the next scheduled change if the pad is catching the overflow. That saves money, because a diaper costs more than a pad.

We do not sell diapers. We sell the pad that makes the diaper work harder.

Sternmed underpads in maternity

Labour is wet work. Waters, blood and fluids land on the delivery bed and the postnatal bed for days. A pad under the mother keeps the mattress clean and makes each change quick.

Midwives use two to three pads per delivery and one or two a day after. A small maternity unit with 100 births a month uses three to four bales. Mothers going home often take a packet with them for the first week.

Why Sternmed keeps one size

Many brands sell three or four sizes and the buyer never knows which one is in the box. We hold 60 x 90 cm only. It covers the hip area of an adult and the full length of a child.

One size means one price, one shelf position and one reorder line. Stores officers like that. Families like that they never buy the wrong one.

If demand for another size grows we will add it and say so here. Until then, what you see on this page is what we hold.

What happens after you order

You send the order. We confirm that stock is in Nairobi today and we confirm the delivery cost if you are outside the city. We dispatch and you pay by M Pesa or cash when the pads reach you.

Wholesale and retail buyers get the same reply and the same pads. The more bales on one order, the better the delivery works out per pad.

Exports across Africa are arranged on request. Tell us your city and we will quote freight.
